2026 Betty Endicott Student Scholarship - Now Open

We are now accepting applications for this year's Betty Endicott Scholarship recipient. Open to full-time undergraduate and graduate students pursuing careers in communications or broadcast journalism. Preference is given to those committed to a career in the broadcast news industry.


Scholarships will range from $1,000 to $5,000 (not to exceed $5,000), depending on the number of scholarships awarded. View PDF of application.

Eligibility Requirements for Applicants

  • Be enrolled in an accredited two or four year college or graduate program in Maryland, Virginia, or Washington, DC

  • Be a full-time sophomore, junior or graduating senior with a declared major in communications or broadcast journalism

  • Be a full-time graduate student in pursuit of an advanced degree in either communications or broadcast journalism

  • Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher

  • Demonstrate an aptitude or interest in communication or broadcast news journalism through coursework, extracurricular activities, internships, jobs and volunteer work


Application Package Components:

  • Complete the Online Application - You must have a google account to submit this application. If you do not have an account, please email info@capitalemmys.org to make alternate arrangements.

  • An essay, NOT TO EXCEED TWO PAGES:

    • Describe a challenge you faced while reporting or producing a story. What decision did you make in that moment, and what did it teach you about the journalist you want to become?

  • Unofficial college transcript

  • One-page resume

  • Two letters of reference (one from a college professor or administrator)

  • Work samples (no more than five) sent as online links (do not send video files)
