One very important part of the National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter’s mission is to bring up the next generation of television industry professionals. To that end, we are proud to partner with educational institutions throughout our region to provide students with opportunities to meet working professionals and get a taste of what a television career might hold. If you would like to receive email notification on student events please request to join our email group.
Outstanding Achievement in Student Production
NATAS–NCCB sponsors an annual awards competition that honors excellence in student productions for news or other student-produced programs at a university, college or technical/vocational school in the NCCB region. The winners will receive a crystal pillar awarded to the school and each student receives a certificate of their achievement. More information.
The Chapter will sponsor a similar awards competition open to high school students again in 2017. Please request to join our email group to be notified when the Call for Entries is open.
The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) offers several national scholarships for students. In addition, the National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter (NCCB) offers a regional scholarship in honor of Betty Endicott, the first female news director in Washington, DC. Click here for more information on the scholarships offered and how to apply.
Face Time with the Pros
NATAS–NCCB, together with several other media organizations, co-sponsors an annual student news seminar which brings together news executives and other media professionals with students from throughout the region. The next event will be held Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the University of Maryland.
This is hands-on, often one-on-one opportunity where, among other things, students get the opportunity to produce their first “live shot” (including the use of a live truck provided by one of our member stations) or anchor a brief newscast and get pointers on how to improve their presentation. The number of participants is limited to give students a truly personal experience and meaningful “face time” with the participating professionals. More information.
Students who are interested in and concerned with the advancement of the arts and sciences of television and media industries can join NATAS–NCCB at a special reduced rate! For just $15 you can become a member of the premiere professional association for those working in television and media. Get a jump on your networking and join today!
